Isabel
Holland Potter was born in Spondon in 1883 the daughter of John
Holland and Leah Georgina Potter. She was baptised at Spondon on
16th September 1883. In 1891 the family were at Moor Street, Spondon,
where her father is described as a farmer.
By 1901 Isabel is listed as a hospital nurse, on probation, at the
Cottage Hospital, Wirksworth.
In 1911 Isabel is on the census at Barton Court Hotel, New Milton,
Hampshire. This hotel had been converted to a hospital. Her occupation
was professional nurse.
Isabel was mobilised to the Territorial Force Nursing Service on
28th October 1914. Sometime in 1916 she became ill and unfit for
duty for on 9th May 1917 she was “not yet pronounced fit for
duty after her illness last year”
She was invalided out on 12th January 1918.
There followed correspondence between Isabel and the TFNS relating
to her condition.
Isabel Holland Potter passed away at Oaklands, West Avenue, Chellaston,
aged 35 years of tuberculosis.
